Boston City Hall
Kallmann McKinnell and Wood
Boston City Hall sits on a nine-acre brick plaza at the heart of Government Center, a 1960s urban renewal district. Kallmann McKinnell and Wood won the design commission through an open competition in 1962. The building is one of the most photographed and most discussed brutalist public buildings in the United States, appearing on both "ugliest buildings" lists and on syllabi for architectural history courses.
