Habitat 67
Moshe Safdie
Built for the 1967 World Exhibition, Habitat 67 consists of 354 prefabricated concrete boxes stacked and interconnected to form 146 apartments. Moshe Safdie designed it as his McGill University thesis, proposing that prefabrication could deliver affordable, dignified housing at urban density. The apartments were converted to condominiums in 1987 and are now among Montreal's most expensive properties.
