Curved concrete housing block corridor
Demolished New Brutalism

Robin Hood Gardens

Alison and Peter Smithson

Robin Hood Gardens was the only major completed housing project by Alison and Peter Smithson, the architects who coined the term "New Brutalism." Its curved concrete slab blocks were organised around a central mound intended as a protected communal landscape. The estate was demolished between 2017 and 2021 despite a campaign for listing that attracted international support. Panels from the building were acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
